Writing Articles To Build Your Consulting Practice

I’m sure you’ve all heard the phrase, “knowledge is power”. Typically, that phrase means that those who possess knowledge also possess power.

My question to you now is: how do people know that you have that knowledge? The consulting business is really all about getting people to believe that you know something that they don’t, and to trust that you will deliver quality work every time. And to be perfectly frank with you, that kind of trust is hard to establish.

Think of this though: what if there was an easy way for you to let people see the quality of your work and your knowledge? Think of it as almost like a wine tasting event – people could see and compare you to other consultants and see if you have the flavor and aroma that they want in a consultant (and like wine, consultants can get more valuable with age too! Or that just might be my bias … ).

In other words, what if you wrote some articles and published them? Look for journals in your field. In this day and age there are a tremendous amount of magazines for just about every profession. Find one and try to get an article in it.

Or, if you don’t feel that you can get an article in a magazine, why don’t you submit one to your local newspaper, or even start an online blog? Seeing posts regarding the same topics in your field will not only build trust, but it will also let people see your writing quality as well.
